Gino's Burgers closes its Bensalem location

POSTED: Friday, February 8, 2013, 2:52 PM

The Gino's Burgers & Chicken outlet in Bensalem is now buttoned up after 90 days.

"Conflicting interests" is the official explanation; unlike the flagship location in King of Prussia, the Bensalem location was owned by a franchise group.

It also had a drive-thru - something that Gino's never had years ago and in its new incarnation.

Besides KoP, there are five other locations in Maryland, including one at Camden Yards.

Bensalem has had a checkered past with burger chains. Sonic Drive-In opened, closed, and later reopened its Street Road joint last year.

I worked for Gino's in the late 1970s. What a bush league operation from top to bottom. It's no surprise they have a hard time keeping their doors open.

Their prices were a bit higher, but the ambiance was a bit lower than the Burger King across the road. Their hamburger seemed to be fresh meat, instead of the lower fat frozen stuff that most fast food chains use.

Bensalem is looking a lot like the new Kensington of Bucks County.

KOP is a really good location and they do great business and a good job, I've been to Bensalem and the people there just didn't seem to have the right attitude for running a business and never seemed to know anything about what was going on in KOP which is a bad sign for a chain restaurant. BTW, 90 days is wrong, it was more like a year and 90 days as they opened in the fall of '11.

The food and service at the Bensalem location was nowhere near as good as King of Prussia. Gino's management should learn from this and give up on the franchise idea until they know how to do it right.

Hard to see where it was until you went past it. Food was decent but location poor.

...you can't have a business in Bensalem unless you pay off that mayor up there...

I'll blame the poor performance of this Geno's on that fireboat Bear that the local Bensalem fire company finagled the US Government into buying. Had the feds been talked into buying the Gino's franchise instead, it would have garanteed the franchise a steady paycheck, no matter how little a customer base it had. Sorta like the auto and bank bailout....
