Cheese for dinner!

La Petite Dauphine, the brunch/dessertery in a classy brownstone walk-up at 2029 Walnut St. in Rittenhouse, is gearing up for dinner service in a couple of months.

As a starter, owner David Smith is sending his cheese cart on a spin around the dining room Wednesday evenings - starting tonight - for six-cheese tastings ($16).  Smith wants patrons to be seated at 6 p.m. but will make accommodations for later-comers.

Smith also is instituting Friday BYOB happy hours after 6 p.m., during which he will serve $1 oysters and bar bites.

On weekends, he's extending the afternoon tea service, sending the dessert cart out in the evening. He's offering an $18-a-head chocolate bar and dessert buffet (which includes a coffee or chocolate drink) from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
