Great Wine Values: Argyle Brut, a bubbly Oregonian, on sale

Postponing your romantic rendezvous until the weekend?

Consider picking up a bottle of this bubbly beauty from Oregon.

Sparkling wines are every girl's best friend, but it's rare to find one this well made for less than $30, let alone under $20.

Why?  Wines made using the laborious methods pioneered in the Champagne region of France are expensive to make, especially those made with chardonnay and pinot noir grapes from prestige real estate, like Oregon's Willamette Valley.

However, such wines have a unique sensory appeal that simply cannot be faked. Their classy je ne sais quoi stems from an uncanny ability to embody both decadence and austerity at the same time.

Here, a dessert-worthy texture and rich scent of French toast are balanced in every sip with a spine-tingling thrill of racy, green-apple acidity. Ooh la la!

Argyle Brut, Willamette Valley, Oregon, $18.99 (regularly $23.99), PLCB Item #6784; Sale price through Feb. 26.
