A mighty cool street-food festival is coming together, and the centerpiece of the event will be a throwdown among a dozen top chefs from the region.
"EATS Philly: Two Kitchens/Two Countries" - set for 6 to 9 p.m. April 23 at Vie catering (600 N. Broad St.) - is a charity event to benefit Children’s Village in Philadelphia and Wat Bodd Voraditth orphanage in Thailand.
It's a production involving two forces of nature - chef/restaurateur Moon Krapugthong (Chabaa Thai; Yanako) and kitchen designer Judy Spielman (Space by Spielman Ltd.). The two collaborated on a 2011 Eat Along the Street event, held in Manayunk.
The chefs and restaurateurs that have signed on represent a neat cross-section of the restaurant community: Marcie Turney, Tony Clark (the 2011 winner), Tim Spinner, Michael Fiorello, Sylva Senat, Greg Vernick, Clark Gilbert, Chaz Brown, Aimee Olexy, Chad Rosenthal, Angie Brown, and Rich Landau & Kate Jacoby.
The Philadelphia Mobile Food Association (PMFA) will bring out food trucks, including Nomad Pizza, Gozen Yogurt, The Sunflower Truck Stop, Just Jackie's, Local 215, The Cow & the Curd, Sammy Chon's, Vernalicious, and Foo Truck.
NBC10 reporter Tim Furlong will emcee. Actor/sandwich man Tony Luke Jr., chef/author Aliza Green, the Town Dish's Mary Bigham, Children's Village chef Wilhelmina Bell, and I are judges.
