Brian Sirhal and chef Tim Spinner open Taqueria Feliz on Thursday at 4410 Main St. (267-331-5874).

The former Mainly Shoes store, last occupied by a fortune-teller who knew her lease was ending, was stripped to the bare walls.

Canno Design's dining room is ringed by lots of original stone and brick accented by exposed wood and metal highlighted by splashes of color. Unlike Cantina Feliz and La Calaca Feliz, the Day of the Dead decorations are minimal. Artist Alison Dilworth left the skulls to a wildly bold bar top and a few masks on the walls.

Executive chef Lucio Palazzo riffs on taqueria fare: tacos, enchiladas, tortas, and entrees, including slow-roasted lamb barbacoa, red snapper enchipotlado, tempura-battered fish tacos, and carnitas tacos. Entrees are under $20.

It's dinner-only at the start; lunch will begin in November.

Jose Garces isn't saying what he'll do with the former Old Original Bookbinder's in Old City, which he leased last week. I've heard the Iron Chef will relocate his offices there, set up some TV production, and reopen the Presidents Room as a pub.

Montgomery County's beer scene is on the upswing. In Lafayette Hill, construction is in the final stages at Barren Hill Tavern & Brewery, the brew pub hoping to shed the ghosts of the former General Lafayette Inn. Following close behind will be the reopening of Brittingham's. In Conshohocken, plans are coming together for Conshohocken Brewing Co. on Elm Street, a brew pub behind the new Bar Lucca (the former Totaro's). In Jenkintown, Owen Hutchins and Jennifer McGuire are hoping for a late-February-ish opening of Guild Hall Brewing Co., a brew pub on Old York Road next door to the Hiway Theater. Metcalfe Architecture & Design is working with the 80-year-old building that initially was a Rolls-Royce garage but most recently was the Jenkintown Antique Guild.

HipCityVeg, the Rittenhouse quick-serve, has opened its second location, at 214 S. 40th St. in University City. This one also seats 35.

Green Soul, the Ogontz cafe, has opened its second location, at 8229 Germantown Ave. in Chestnut Hill, replacing Jonathan's Best next to the Chestnut Hill Farmer's Market.

Shake Shack opens Monday on Mall Boulevard behind the Plaza at King of Prussia, following an opening last week at 32d a–nd Chestnut Streets.

Rival Bros. Coffee, which launched in 2011 as a truck, is adding a cafe at 24th and Lombard Streets, formerly Taste Buds Market. It's due to open in 2014.

Calexico, a New York City food truck/restaurant specializing in California-style Mexican fare, is building its first Philadelphia location at 1600 South St. (January or February opening). It also just signed a lease at Frankford and Girard Avenues in Fishtown.

Sweetgreen, a health-forward cafe now in Ardmore and University City, is looking to a spring opening at 924 Walnut St. where Bonte was.
