Now this is a story all about how…Will Smith joined Instagram!
Yes, our very own Philadelphia Fresh Prince is the newest resident of the Instagram neighborhood, and now all of you ‘grammers out there can catch a glimpse of Smith’s life in little squares and double-tap on an adorable throwback baby picture.
With a nod to West Philly in his profile bio, the 49-year-old actor posted yesterday for the first time. In just 24 hours, he has already garnered 1.4 million followers (and counting) and managed to enter into a playful beef with his buddy Justin Timberlake.
Welcome to Instagram @willsmith. This is called a #TBT. Which means Throwback Thursday. Which is a photo you post on Thursdays that you like, that was taken in the past. I like this photo because it’s a photo of you and me. And we look like we are having a serious conversation about something very important. And that makes me feel important.

Like any good friend, Timberlake posted a #tbt yesterday featuring a photo of him and Smith together, along with a caption that defined exactly what a Throwback Thursday is. “Welcome to Instagram @willsmith. This is called a #TBT. Which means Throwback Thursday. Which is a photo you post on Thursdays that you like, that was taken in the past,” Timberlake wrote.
The newbie responded to Timberlake today with a video in which he not only thanked the singer and former boy band member for welcoming him to the social network – but also provided some entertainment for his growing legion of fans.
“JT! Thanks a lot man for the post. And you know, the brief education about Instagram because this is my first day so I’m appreciating the hook-up,” Smith said. “But man I know what Throwback Thursday is! I ain’t been in a hole!”
In good fun, Smith took the opportunity to dish it back to Timberlake with a little word of advice in anticipation of the singer’s second Super Bowl performance. (I’m sure we all remember Nipplegate from 2004’s halftime show.) “I heard you’re doing the Super Bowl so I just wanted to help you out, like just the things to avoid at the Super Bowl,” Smith said as he lifted his shirt and zoomed in on his nipple. “Just avoid that,” he mocked before giggling, “I’m stupid.”
It’s safe to say that a new generation of fans will get to know the Fresh Prince we all know and love.
