One of Overbrook’s Will Smith’s latest gigs will have him working with astronauts.
The National Geographic Channel announced Tuesday that the two-time Oscar nominee will host One Strange Rock, a 10-episode documentary series about Earth from filmmaker Darren Aronofsky (mother!, Black Swan) and producer Jane Root (America The Story of Us). It’s scheduled for launch in March 2018.
Adding perspective to the series will be eight astronauts and former astronauts, including Mae Jemison, the first African American woman in space, and Peggy Whitson, who’s spent 665 days in space and recently returned from her most recent mission, to the International Space Station.
“I am thrilled to have Will Smith on board to guide our series. His charisma, intelligence and humanity will add greatly to the project, helping welcome viewers into this unique narrative about the mind-blowing wonders that make life on Earth possible,” said Aronofsky in a prepared statement.
