Kevin Hart's new TV show helps boost another Philly comic

If we didn’t already know Kevin Hart hasn’t forgotten where he came from, there’ll be more evidence on Comedy Central this weekend.

The Philadelphia-born star helps spotlight the work of friend (and fellow Philadelphian) Will “Spank” Horton in the premiere of a new series featuring rising comedians.

Hart’s role in Kevin Hart Presents: The Next Level (11  p.m. Sunday, Comedy Central) is to conduct a brief interview with each week’s featured comic, who then takes the stage for a half-hour special, which, according to Hart, is a major milestone in any comedian’s career.

Horton, who grew up in Nicetown — and reminds Hart that he prefers to be called Spank — talks in his act about moving to a predominantly white suburb, marital arguments, and relationship issues.

In 2015, Horton was one of the comedians who opened for Hart during his sold-out performance at Lincoln Financial Field.
