'Borgias' fans buzz the TV critics

Plane carries banner asking Showtime president to reconsider show's cancellation.

Fans of the Showtime-canceled "The Borgias" are apparently putting their money where their mouths are.

On Tuesday, that meant hiring a plane to trail a banner over the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, Calif., where Showtime hosted an outdoor, "Dexter"-themed lunch (don't ask) during the Television Critics Association summer meetings.

Those banners are only so long, so this one read, "D. Nevins, SHO the fans you care."

Showtime president David Nevins seemed unperturbed, glancing up occasionally while talking to reporters over lunch, mostly about things other than "The Borgias." When he arrived at the hotel earlier, he said, there was one protester. He rolled down his window and asked the man what he'd thought of the show's finale, only to be told he hadn't seen it. (He seems to think the man was being paid to be there.)

For those who've been hammering away at critics for weeks, I can tell you that Nevins seems unmoved. Yes, they considered a two-hour finale, he said, but the numbers didn't work.

As for me, I'm just hoping a drone strike isn't next.
