What to stream this weekend: Rage against the machine with the hackers of 'Mr. Robot'

Mr. Robot There's still plenty of anger out there over the 2008 financial crisis and plenty of suspicion that banks and corporations operate above the law. Add this sentiment to our continuing fascination with all things tech, and you get Mr. Robot, USA Network's critically lauded cyber-conspiracy thriller about a lone wolf who rises up against the rich and powerful. The show took home the best drama series award at this year's Golden Globes.

Rami Malek (The Pacific) stars as Elliot, a meek computer security geek whose day job is to secure corporations against cyber attacks. By night, he turns into the very thing his bosses fear: a vigilante hacker.

Christian Slater, who won a Golden Globe for his role, is terrific as the titular Mr. Robot, an anarchist revolutionary who recruits Elliot for his hacker collective called fsociety. Look for a wonderful turn by Carly Chaikin (Suburgatory) as Darlene, a fellow fsociety rebel.

There's just enough time left to watch the debut season before USA rolls out the second season on July 13.

Where to stream it: Amazon Prime

Like this? Binge these: Orphan Black (Amazon Prime); Humans (Amazon Prime); and Residue, a Brit miniseries that's half ghost story and half political conspiracy (Netflix).
