TV picks: 'Tales of the Grim Sleeper,' 'The Casual Vacancy,' 'Psychic Matchmaker' and more

British filmmaker Nick Broomfield ("Kurt & Courtney") explores the case of a suspected serial killer whose neighbors in South Central Los Angeles initially couldn't imagine that the family man they knew could be responsible for the deaths of what may have been dozens of poor, black women. Further digging turns up people whose memories of Lonnie Franklin Jr. aren't so benign, but the real story is one of official neglect that may have helped the "Grim Sleeper" escape detection for decades.

The unexpected death of a local official brings an English village's divisions into sharp relief in this two-night adaptation of "Harry Potter" author J.K. Rowling's first book written for adults.

Wednesday, BBC America.

Season 3 of the series, set in London in the aftermath of the Jack the Ripper murders, makes its U.S. debut after airing first in Britain on Amazon. The streaming service rescued the show after the BBC canceled it.

*  PSYCHIC MATCHMAKER.

10:30 p.m. Friday, TLC.

Can a woman who sees auras bring people together? Better this than "The Bachelor."
