COULD Dave Chappelle be returning to TV?

Comedyhype.com says yes - that Chappelle shot a new special for HBO this past week in Austin, Texas.

His first HBO special, "Killing Them Softly," aired 15 years ago.

Hey, one great special every 15 years is better than one crappy special every year.

Of course, comedyhype.com could be wrong and Chappelle was just shooting his stand-up act for the hell of it.

The low-key comedian was most recently in the news when he got heckled off the stage and hit with a banana peel in Connecticut.

"I don't want anything bad to happen to the United States," Chappelle reportedly said later, "but if North Korea ever drops a nuclear bomb on this country, I swear to God I hope it lands in Hartford . . . "

Could it Be Magic

Back when Barry Manilow was cranking out Top 10 hits, his albums used to thank Linda (his girlfriend) and Bagel (his dog) for their support.

But this was back when Bruce Jenner was winning decathlons.

Times change. And obviously people change.

The National Enquirer reports that Manilow secretly married Garry Kief, his manager and longtime lover, in a ceremony at the couple's California home last April.

Last April?

If the National Enquirer is a year late, did any guests know?

Uh, yup. The wedding was attended by 50 friends and relatives who were led to believe they were invited to lunch.

"It was a total surprise. When they arrived they were told it was a wedding!" an anonymous source told the Enquirer.

"Barry has lived a very secretive life and the wedding was no different! Barry and Garry did not tell friends or family that the occasion was their wedding," the insider explained. "It was a beautiful wedding and consummated their lifelong love affair!"

The reason the nuptials stayed a secret is because Barry never filed the paperwork. The source said he was afraid that "his fans would not approve of him being gay, when in reality, many have suspected it for years."

Ya think? All he was missing was a cape and a candelabra.

And would any Barry Manilow fan really care? Jim Nabors married his longtime partner in 2013 and he sang "Back Home in Indiana" at the Indianapolis 500.

Manilow's best man? Friend and neighbor Suzanne Somers.

Weirdest episode of "Three's Company" ever.

Amber alert

In Touch magazine says that the wedding of Johnny Depp and Amber Heard has hit the rocks only 62 days in.

"They're barely talking," an unanmed insider told In Touch, adding that a problem is Johnny's boozing on the "Pirates of the Caribbean" set while Amber preps for a new film role in London.

"He parties, and it's caused huge fights with Amber," said the source. "It's been hard for them."

* In unrelated bisexual actress news, popdust.com reported that Lindsay Lohan has found life in London a calming influence; she's working hard and back on men.

TATTBITS

Twisted Sister has hired drummer Mike Portnoy to replace A.J. Pero, who died last month, but Portnoy won't have the gig for long.

The heavy metal group will disband next year.

The band said yesterday that it chose Portnoy, who played with Dream Theater, Adrenaline Mob and the Winery Dogs, to perform at its remaining seven shows this year.

Two of them will be tribute concerts to Pero: on May 30 at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, in Las Vegas, which will be recorded for a CD and DVD; and June 13 at the Starland Ballroom, in Sayreville, N.J., which will raise money for Pero's family.

The band is planning an undetermined number of concerts in 2016 to mark the end of its performing career on the 40th anniversary of its core lineup of singer Dee Snider, guitarists Jay Jay French and Eddie Ojeda, and bassist Mark "The Animal" Mendoza. Earlier incarnations of the band date to 1973.

Twisted Sister is best known for the 1984 hit singles "We're Not Gonna Take It" and "I Wanna Rock."

* The Fox hit "Empire" has been endorsed by Mick Jagger, who said he's a fan of the musical drama series.

"It's been very successful and it's great that a show about music can be that successful and it's good for everybody. And I think it's a really good show," said Jagger, who fronts the Rolling Stones when he's not trying to steal Ellen Gray's job as TV critic.

* In a rare edition of Tattle's "Write Your Own Story," we give you this headline from the National Enquirer: "Cat Fancier Taylor Swift Hires Top Pussy Psychic."

You're on your own.
