Two former Philly faces joining Al Jazeera America

DAVE WARREN, who left his weatherman post at NBC10 in March, will be doing weather segments for the new 24/7 news network based in New York. Warren had been with NBC10 since 2003.

Warren, who's headed to Al Jazaeera America, said he looked at options all over the country after NBC10 did not renew his contract, and he's excited about the prospect of covering weather nationally rather than locally.

"As a meteorologist, I get to go to where the weather is happening rather than just having it come to me," Warren told me, adding that he'll occasionally get to travel to wherever major weather events are happening.

But guess who Warren ran into in wardrobe? Former Fox 29 anchor (and former Daily News Sexy Single) Thomas Drayton, who left in July after he was moved from the evening desk to the morning.

Drayton couldn't be reached for comment.

Al Jazeera America already has two Philly faces: moneyman Ali Velshi, who is still based in Bryn Mawr, and reporter Sarah Hoye. Both defected from CNN.

The 2013 Mid-Atlantic Emmy Awards were announced on Saturday at the Sheraton Society Hill, with a strong showing from the Philly region. Comcast SportsNet took home 14 awards, while NBC10 won six, CBS3 won four and Fox 29 garnered three. WHYY, Sam Katz, the Eagles Television Network, Temple University's TUTV and the Community College of Philadelphia each received a statuette.

NBC10's Tracy Davidson, CSN's Amy Fadool, CBS3's Walt Hunter, CBS3's Stephanie Stahl and CSN's Marc Zumoff were singled out for their on-air prowess.

Philly born and bred author Rich Podolsky has released his second musically inclined book. Neil Sedaka: Rock 'n' Roll Survivor, tracing the rise, fall and resurgence of the pop star and songwriter, comes out tomorrow.

Podolsky had complete access to Sedaka. The foreword was written by the one and only Sir Elton John.

Daily News photographer Steve Falk will run the local Ride for Kids, a series of motorcycle jaunts benefiting the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation. * Kat Graham, who plays witchy woman Bonnie Bennett on the CW's "The Vampire Diaries," dined at the Center City location of Fuel (1225 Walnut St.), the eatery known for its below-500-calorie options. Graham chowed down on the South Philly Panini.

* All 53 Miss America contestants were treated to a Buddakan meal in Atlantic City (The Pier Shops at Caesars, 1 Atlantic Ocean, Atlantic City) that included delicious eats like edamame ravioli, wasabi-encrusted filet mignon and a special treat from the pastry chef.

* Singer-songwriter Ben Kweller hit up the Phillies game on Friday before playing the WHYY Connections Festival on Saturday, headlined by nerd rock gods They Might Be Giants.
