PlayPenn announces new general manager

ERINREAD
Theater artist and arts administrator Erin Read is the new general manager of PlayPenn.

PlayPenn, the new play development center on South Broad, announced new hires on Friday to bolster its management and development teams.

The new PlayPenn general manager is Erin Read, an accomplished actor and arts administrator (a skill combo you’re seeing more and more in the Philly theater world, because it makes sense). She will oversee the organization’s day-to-day operation. Reed has worked with the Walnut Street Theater, the Arden Theatre Company, Simpatico Theatre Project, and Theatre Horizon. For the last five years she has been with the Pew Center for Arts & Heritage.

PlayPenn’s new development coordinator is actor Sabrina Profitt. She’s a veteran reader at PlayPenn workshops, and also has a BA (summa cum laude) from DeSales University and an MFA in Acting from the Florida State University/Asolo Conservatory for Professional Actor Training.  She also has a Certificate in Nonprofit Management from the Nonprofit Center at LaSalle University.

New to the development team are Karen and Richard Quinn, partners in Quinn Consulting Associates. The Quinns are experienced grant proposal writers, having worked with more than 40 nonprofit clients from here to New York.

Since 2005, more than 110 plays have passed through PlayPenn, and nearly 60 percent of them have gone on professional productions, more than 315 here and around the world. For the first time, a PlayPenn-developed play, Oslo by J.T. Rogers, reached Broadway and won a Tony Award for best new play (it also won an Obie for its off-Broadway run).
