May It Last: A Portrait of the Avett Brothers. Judd Apatow and Michael Bonfiglio's documentary about Seth and Scott Avett — two musical brothers who genuinely don't seem to hate each other — ambles along amiably, tracing the soulful American duo from their North Carolina beginning to a recording session in Malibu with big-shot bearded producer Rick Rubin. On HBO.

Combo Chimbita. A Brooklyn foursome with roots in Colombia, Combo Chimbita are a foursome fronted by singer and guacharaca player Carolina Oliveros. They're a dance band that embraces tropical futurism while drawing on music from Haiti, Cape Verde, and Jamaica. Free. With La Noche at Commonwealth Plaza on Monday at Kimmel Center.

Kermit Ruffins / New Sound Brass Band. New Orleans trumpeter Ruffins was an original member of Rebirth Brass Band before going on to become a highly entertaining Satchmo-inspired Crescent City institution. New Sound put a winning Philly spin on the Second Line tradition from the City That Care Forgot. Thursday at Ardmore Music Hall.

John Oates. Touring without his other half, the Nashville-based member of the Philly-born pop soul duo who now have their own annual Memorial Day weekend Hoagie Nation festival digs into American roots music with his Good Road Band. Thursday at World Cafe Live.

Creem Circus. Glamtastic 1970s stylized rock outfit named after two glossy music magazines and fronted by Chris DiPinto, of Fishtown custom guitar emporium DiPinto Guitar & Basses. The group has a new batch of Trump-inspired songs and a catchy slogan: "Your favorite band's favorite band." Opening for Uni and Starbenders. Thursday at Kung Fu Necktie.
