Philadelphia's brand spanking new rock club, Union Transfer, opened in the old Spaghetti Warehouse location at 10th and Spring Garden on Wednesday night. With one-fifth Philadelphian quintet Clap Your Hands Say Yeah as its first headliner, the malleable venue with a movable stage booked by Sean Agnew's R5 Productions in conjunction with New York promoters Bowery Presents showed no first night jitters. The state of the art sound system sounded great, the sight lines are clean all over the all-ages (and over 21) venue, and even at a sold-out capacity of 1000 in the room's largest configuration, it didn't feel the slightest bit cramped.

That's Alec Ounsworth and Clap Your Hands with their backstage passes on their pants above, and opening act Polica - the first band to grace the UT stage - below. A full review will be online Thursday, and in the Friday Inquirer.
