Former ‘America’s Next Top Model’ contestant, Yaya DaCosta will play Whitney Houston in the late singer’s new Lifetime biopic.

Since her stint on season three ‘America’s Next Top Model,’ DaCosta, who gave birth to her son in September 2013, has appeared in ‘All My Children,’ ‘Ugly Betty,’ ‘House,’ ‘Lee Daniels’ The Butler,’ and ‘Tron: Legacy.’

The new film, due out in 2015, will be actress Angela Bassett’s directorial debut. Bassett is best known for her role as Tina Turner in ‘What’s Love Got to Do with It,’ and her role in ‘Waiting to Exhale.’

TMZ reports that Houston’s family does not approve of the legend’s personal life, including her volatile relationship with R&B star Bobby Brown, being portrayed on film.

In a statement on the biopic, Bassett said:

“I have such regard for both Whitney’s and Bobby’s amazing talents and accomplishments; and I feel a responsibility in the telling of their story. Their humanity and bond fascinates us all. I’m beyond excited to have this opportunity to go behind the camera and into their world.”
