Aug 13 (TheWrap.com) - Sam Simon is bringing his struggle with terminal cancer to the small screen.

“The Simpsons” executive producer Simon, who was diagnosed with terminal colorectal cancer in 2012, is teaming with Fusion on a documentary that will chronicle Simon's battle with cancer and his efforts to save animals from harmful and abusive situations.

Simon, whose cancer has spread to several other organs since his diagnosis, is giving away most of his money to the cause of animal welfare. A longtime member of the national board of PETA, he also founded Sam Simon Foundation, which is devoted to saving the lives of dogs to enrich the lives of people. He's also a contributor to marine conservation organization Captain Paul Watson's Sea Shepherd Conservation Society.

“Sam Simon is a singular figure,” Fusion CEO Isaac Lee said. “Our hope is to pay tribute to his life and career while also sparking an important conversation about animal rights and empowering young people to be a catalyst for change.”

The documentary project is being produced in conjunction with Wayfarer Entertainment.
