Josh Trank to direct 'Star Wars' movie

Jun 04 (TheWrap.com) - Josh Trank is the latest young filmmaker to be given a “Star Wars” film.

The director of “Chronicle,” who is working on Fox's “Fantastic Four” film, was announced as the director of another “Star Wars” stand-alone movie by Lucasfilm on Wednesday, putting him on the roster alongside “Godzilla” helmer Gareth Edwards.

“We're thrilled to welcome Josh into the family,” Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy said in a statement. “He is such an incredible talent and has a great imagination and sense of innovation. That makes him perfectly suited to Star Wars, and for this new slate of movies that reach beyond the core characters and storylines of Episodes I through IX.”

“The magic of the ‘Star Wars' Universe defined my entire childhood. The opportunity to expand on that experience for future generations is the most incredible dream of all time.”

Trank is repped by WME and Management 360.

He has already directed a “Star Wars” film — or, at least a very unofficial short that was posted on YouTube back in early 2007:
