Jun 23 (TheWrap.com) - Tribeca Film announced on Monday that it has picked up North American distribution rights to Alex Ross Perry's sophomore directorial vehicle “Listen Up Philip,” starring Jason Schwartzman and Elizabeth Moss. It's been set for an Oct. 17, 2014 release in the U.S., followed by a VOD premiere the following week.

The dark comedy, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, follows Schwartzman's novelist Philip as he awaits the release of his second novel, sure to be a success in his own mind. Driven to annoyance by the city and a deteriorating relationship with his photographer girlfriend (Moss), he jumps at the chance to seek refuge in an idyllic country house offered up by his idol Ike Zimmerman (Jonathan Pryce), where he can focus on his favorite topic: Himself.

“Driven by a superbly acidic performance by Jason Schwartzman and equally fuelled by its allusions to and by inspiration from Philip Roth, director/writer Alex Ross Perry's ‘Listen Up Philip’ is a revelation by a uniquely gifted filmmaker,” said Geoff Gilmore, Chief Creative Officer of Tribeca Enterprises.

“Listen Up Philip” also stars Krysten Ritter, Joséphine de La Baume, Dree Hemingway and Jess Weixler, and was produced by Katie Stern and Joshua Blum at Washington Square Films, and Toby Halbrooks, James M. Johnston & David Lowery of Sailor Bear.
