Sharks will fly and impose mayhem again.
Syfy confirmed Wednesday morning that the network is making a sequel to last week's monster Twitter hit, Sharknado.
The premise of Sharknado 2 will involve flying sharks wreaking havoc in New York City, again as the result of an ecological disaster.
Thomas Vitale, Syfy's Executive Vice President, Programming and Original Movies said in a statement: “Every once in a while, there is a perfect storm – on television. The fans are clamoring for a sequel. Or perhaps it will be a prequel. What we can guarantee is that Sharknado 2 will be lots of fun. We’ll be announcing more details very soon. But we didn’t want our fans to worry they wouldn’t get their fill of more shark fin, I mean, fun next year.”
About 1.4 million viewers tuned into last week's premiere of the film. For those who missed the big event, Syfy will air Sharknado again Thursday evening.
Sharknado 2 is set to air in 2014 and will be produced by The Asylum. Syfy wants Twitter users to come up with a subtitle name for the sequel. Fans can tweet their ideas to @SyfyMovies by using the hashtag #Sharknado.
