Moral fiction In medieval times, audiences favored allegorical dramas in which the main character was confronted by personifications of good and evil (kind of like reality TV, or an Eagles-Cowboys game). An archetypal morality play, the 15th-century work Everyman, presents a proto-existential view of humanity making solitary choices while distracted by the pursuit of wealth. Poet Carol Ann Duffy's updating of the play connects it with our own materialistic, self-absorbed times. "I thought the Earth was mine to spend, a coin in space," says the protagonist, when asked to account for himself. A film of the National Theatre production, starring Chiwetel Ejiofor, screens at the Bryn Mawr Film Institute,

824 W. Lancaster Ave., Bryn Mawr, at 7:30 p.m. Thursday and 1 p.m. next Sunday. Tickets are $20; $10 students. Call 610-527-9898.

The luminous Dar Williams sings for the Bryn Mawr Twilight Concerts series at the Bryn Mawr Gazebo, 9 S. Bryn Mawr Ave., Bryn Mawr, at 8 p.m. Saturday. Tickets: $15; $5 ages 5 to 16.
