50th Anniversary LGBT VIP Party at Stratus Lounge
his past weekend Philadelphia celebrated the National LGBT 50th Anniversary of the first protests in Philadelphia on the road to LGBT equality rights. Four original marchers were recognized at the annual Celebration of Freedom Ceremony in front of Independence Hall by Mayor Michael Nutter. The big event was followed by a brunch at Constitution Center and a VIP cocktail party at Stratus Lounge at Hotel Monaco to celebrate with hero Jim Obergefell, who was a plaintiff in Obergefell v. Hodges (the historic Supreme Court decision on June 26, 2015 declaring the constitutional right to nationwide same-sex marriage). Many of the day’s honorees joined in the celebration including Edie Windsor, Judy Shepard, Bishop Gene Robinson, Wanda Sykes, and Amanda Simpson, the Executive Director of the U.S. Army Office of Energy who is the first openly transgender female presidential appointee.
