Bolaris: Taking the real-estate market by storm

The Music Man: Actor helps usher in 159th Academy Ball

"I'm starting to make it rain in the real-estate market," says four-time Emmy-winning meteorologist and so-called blackballed former Fox 29 weatherman John Bolaris.

Bolaris is now a real-estate agent targeting clients who are athletes and in the entertainment industry.

He goes by the adage "Sky's the Limit!" and is now licensed to sell homes in Pennsylvania and New York.

"I've found a home for a couple of professional athletes playing in the Philadelphia market," he said.

"Most recently I helped a client secure her dream house at the luxurious Two Liberty Place. . . . Learn how to play the game, then play it better than anyone else."

Young Philly singer hits the Academy Ball

Bobby Hill, the young boy with the "voice of an angel," noted for his work with the Keystone State Boychoir, will perform at the Academy of Music's 159th Anniversary Concert and Ball on Jan. 23.

This 14-year-old is famous for performing for His Holiness, Pope Francis, during the Festival of Families in September, and he's just been added to the lineup of talent to perform with the Philadelphia Orchestra and conductor Yannick Nezet-Seguin at the anniversary concert next month at the Academy of Music (240 S. Broad St.) at 7:30 p.m.

Hill will join Emmy and Tony Award-winning comedian, writer, singer and actor Martin Short in the annual celebration of the "Grand Old Lady of Locust Street," which is the beloved nickname of the opera house, also a national historic landmark.

No shortness of Short

Martin Short is also the face of this season's Philadelphia Style cover, which came out this week.

In the magazine's winter edition, Short talks with Style editor Kristin Detterline about his upcoming appearance - which incorporates his lifelong love of the symphony, and about how he'll attempt to make "the concert feel like a party."

Along with Short on the cover, the issue includes a holiday gift guide, beauty treatments, holiday baubles and more.

Locals climb in 'Tank'

A local entrepreneurial duo will make their pitch before investors on ABC's "Shark Tank" next Friday (Dec. 11) at 9 p.m.

Jess Edelstein and Sarah Ribner, best friends since fourth grade, will pitch what they're advertising as a "cult favorite natural deodorant" called PiperWai. PiperWai is a charcoal creme-based deodorant that has supposedly converted thousands of die-hard clinical antiperspirant users to its product.

B-balls for big bills

Basketball legend World B. Free and the Sixers Phlight Squad lit up the Wells Fargo Center (3601 S. Broad St.) yesterday to help draw attention to a financial-education seminar for Philly public-school students.

More than 2,000 middle-school students participated in the "MassMutual FutureSmart Challenge," spearheaded by best-selling author and award-winning actor Hill Harper.

Harper reportedly taught the difference between "smart money" and "dumb money," and instilled the importance of discerning money management for kids, even at a young age.
