Josh Duggar in rehab

Embattled reality star Josh Duggar has availed himself of the services of a rehab facility, his parents announced. No word on what precise malady or addiction he seeks to address. "[Josh] has . . . brought great insult to the values and faith we hold dear," Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar say. "Josh [has] checked himself in to a long-term treatment center. For him it will be a long journey toward wholeness and recovery."

This comes days after the onetime spokesman for conservative Christian family values admitted he used the Ashley Madison website to arrange adulterous liaisons.

Duggar, 27, who has four kids with wife Anna, already had become an embarrassment to the Duggar brand name after his family admitted that when he was a teen, Josh molested underage girls, including his sisters Jill and Jessa. The family's reality show, 19 Kids and Counting, was canceled in May.

A stint in rehab has become standard operating procedure for celebs burned by disastrous PR.

Carmichael: Fans are smart

Some critics are gobsmacked by Jerrod Carmichael's new NBC sitcom, The Carmichael Show, which had its debut Wednesday night. It plunges into a smart discussion of politics right from the opening scenes. It's a rare show that engages with serious issues, says the comic. "It's almost criminal that no comedy [does] that," he tells the Hollywood Reporter. "A lot of comedies are just these empty calories."

TV writers are afraid to offend the audience, so they play it safe, says Carmichael. He vows to do the opposite.

"I think the American television audience . . . is very intelligent and I think that people are able to handle an argument."

Selena G. on Bieber-talk

Selena Gomez, 23, wants us to stop linking her with ex-beau Justin Bieber.

The doll-face singer-actor took to Twitter after British paper the Sunday Times ran a piece about her that lingered on her days as a Belieber.

"Disappointing seeing interviews I've done recently that sound like the exact same interview I did when I was 16," said Gomez.

Noting that she has a whole career of her own - including a forthcoming LP - Gomez tweeted, "Print/type who I am NOW and stop being afraid it won't give your website hits."

Backstreet Boy to DWTS

Nick Carter, 35, is following in the footsteps of his brother Aaron: The Backstreet Boy will compete on the new season of Dancing With the Stars. Nick's website suggests he'll be paired with pro dancer Sharna Burgess.

Patrick Stewart on his son

Patrick Stewart, 75, will be joined by his son Daniel in the sixth episode of his new Starz sitcom, Blunt Talk. "Daniel has a wonderful talent for comedy, particularly wacky comedy," père Stewart tells USA Today.

The pair have shared scenes before: Daniel, 48, played Capt. Jean-Luc Picard's son in a '92 episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation.

"It's a great thing that we're both in the same profession," says the elder thesp. "It has brought so much into both our lives that we can share and enjoy talking about."
