Bolaris pulls plug on website

FORMER broadcast meteorologist, Philly.com contributor and "bar girls" scam survivor John Bolaris has suspended operation of his "Weather Savior" wire service.

The Emmy-award winning forecaster launched Weathersavior.com in May 2014. For about $500 a month, it offered weather events 24/7, with a specialty in storms.

Bolaris told me he has pulled the plug on his website because it just wasn't making any money.

While he said he's shutting down the website, he is not giving up on the project. He said he's preparing for a total relaunch, slated for Nov. 1.

The weatherman said he's excited for new projects in the queue, although he's not ready to say what they are just yet.

"Redemption will feel very good," he told me.

"I've been fighting a very negative tide for years . . . the last few years have been hell, but the tide is changing. Bottom line: I'm a dad who needs to take care of my daughter and be the best provider possible. After all, I am her superhero."

Grammy-award winning poet and author J. Ivy will be in town this weekend for the NAACP's 106th annual convention.

Ivy, known for appearing on Kanye West's debut album, "The College Dropout," as well as on NFL Sunday Night Football, is campaigning to help young people repair tarnished relationships with their fathers.

He's calling it the "Dear Father Movement," and he'll be here tomorrow through Sunday at the Pennsylvania Convention Center (1101 Arch St.).

"Historically, the work the NAACP has done for our community has been beyond transformative," Ivy said. "Having the opportunity to share my book, Dear Father, and its mission of galvanizing 1 million people to write letters to their fathers - with this incredible platform - will have an extremely positive effect."

J. Ivy's book came out earlier this year. His effort to have 1 million people write letters of forgiveness to their fathers grew from Ivy's own tumultuous relationship with his dad, with whom he was estranged for more than a decade. Now, he wants others to learn to overcome.

Eagles quarterback Tim Tebow is heading to Tennessee on Saturday, joining conservative commentator Dinesh D'Souza to talk about "God's Purpose for America."

According to D'Souza's website, people can purchase tickets for $15 to witness the pair discuss what "our great nation has in store and what our obligations are as the most powerful country on the planet."

The event is scheduled from 3 to 5 p.m. at Middle Tennessee State in Murfreesboro, Tenn.
