No charges against Kasem's widow

Los Angeles prosecutors have decided that there is insufficient evidence to file elder-abuse charges against Casey Kasem's widow, Jean.

"Because of Mr. Kasem's longstanding profound health issues, this case cannot be proven beyond a reasonable doubt to a jury," the district attorney's office said in a charge-evaluation sheet released Friday.

Jean Kasem, an actress best known for her recurring role on Cheers, was married to the radio personality and voice actor for more than 30 years, but was stripped of control over his medical care in the final days of his life.

Casey Kasem died last June in Washington state, where his wife took him after removing him from a medical facility where he was receiving 24-hour care. He suffered from a form of dementia and had severe bedsores when he died.

Kerri Kasem, his daughter from a previous marriage, was named his conservator and raised the issue of elder-abuse charges against her stepmother.

Welles memoir to Michigan

The University of Michigan has received a donation of an unpublished memoir by Orson Welles, the actor and director best known for the radio drama The War of the Worlds and the movie Citizen Kane.

The 80-page typewritten memoir has handwritten notes and edits throughout. It includes passages about Welles' parents, second wife and actress Rita Hayworth, author Ernest Hemingway, and filmmaker D.W. Griffith.

Croatian filmmaker Oja Kodar, who was Welles' partner and collaborator for 24 years before his death in 1985 at age 70, donated the eight boxes of materials.
