Blanchett: Hear me roar

"We have to push forward," Cate Blanchett tells Variety regarding the responsibility of women in the film industry to achieve parity - in pay and in opportunity, for not only actors but also writers and directors. "What industry has parity pay for women? None. Why would we expect this industry to be any different?"

Blanchett, 45, plays Rooney Mara's lover in Carol, director Todd Haynes' adaptation of Patricia Highsmith's scandalous 1952 novel The Price of Salt. It's one of a growing number of films, she says, that tell women's stories.

But, she says, since men dominate the biz, it's no surprise that male stories continue to dominate the screen. "It's not serving the audience," says the Melbourne, Australia, native. "People want to see good films. We should have equal access to the multiplexes."

Never liked the Rachel!

She spawned a galaxy-wide trend with it, but Jennifer Aniston now admits she never liked her famed Rachel haircut, which she made famous on the sitcom Friends.

"I was not a fan of the 'Rachel.' That was kind of cringe-y for me," Aniston tells Glamour mag.

"Looking back - honestly, even during that time - I couldn't do it on my own. I needed [my hairstylist] Chris [McMillan] attached to my hip. Left to my own devices, I am not skilled with a hairbrush and blow-dryer."

When does Jen feel at her most beautiful?

"I feel beautiful when I wake up with my sweetheart," says Paul Theroux's sweetie. "When I come home from a night out with my honey and my makeup's a little smudged."

Boxing pays out big

Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao's merry lil' 12-round jig May 2, made available exclusively on pay-per-view, drew 4.4 mil buys in America alone, generating a record-breaking $400 mil in domestic revenue, say cosponsors HBO and Showtime.

Variety says organizers expect another $100 mil to come in from box-office revenues at MGM Grand in Las Vegas, merchandising deals, and foreign pay-per-view buys.

The payday eclipses the previous record-holder, the Mayweather vs. Canelo Alvarez fight in 2013, which raked in $150 mil in U.S. pay-per-view revenue.

Depp, the second gen

Lily Rose Depp, all of 15, made her modeling debut earlier this spring. Now she's ready for the big screen.

Variety says Depp, who is daughter to acting royalty Johnny Depp and French singer and beauty Vanessa Paradis, will play Natalie Portman's sister in a French-language ghost story by Gallic auteur Rebecca Zlotowski (Grand Central).

Gossip petits fours

The Theory of Everything Oscar winner Eddie Redmayne, 33, is in talks to star in a trilogy of fantasy films adapted from J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter spin-off, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, says Variety. . . . Count Jay-Z and Beyoncé as fans of HBO's Game of Thrones. Star Emilia Clarke tells Harper's Bazaar that Jay-Z bought one of her character Daenerys' dragon eggs as a prez for Bey.
