Bieber: I'm mature now

It always goes back to Mom. Justin Bieber is rehabilitating his spoiled-brat image, starting with an effort to forge a better relationship with Pattie Mallette, 39, the woman who, as a single mother, raised him, cared for him, gave him so much.

"We lost our relationship for a while," the Bieb tells USA Today. "She couldn't really tell me anything. She would try, but I wasn't listening to anybody, and that sort of sucked."

The Bieb, who was recently roasted by a cadre of comics eager to skewer him, has had several run-ins with the law, including a dangerous-driving charge. It's all behind him.

He has learned his lesson "the hard way," says the Canadian warbler. "I'm growing, figuring some stuff out. As you do when you grow up.

"You figure out what type of man you want to be. That's where I'm at."

Asked what's most different about him lately, Justin says, "Well, my eyes. You know how you can tell a person by their eyes. . . . Well, my eyes changed. They got softer and brighter. They're open."

Oh, we could look for hours into those bright orbs.

Could you be Justin's girl?

On more important matters, Biebster says he's not dating anyone. What kind of gal does he fancy? "Well, at this point in my life, I'm so focused on myself that I'm not looking for a girlfriend," he tells USA Today. But he does reveal this: "I want a girl I can trust, who I can lean on. This business is hard, and I want someone I can confide in."

'The View' is the Titanic

That's what Jenny McCarthy said Monday of the show that used to provide her a paycheck.

Jenny and hub Donny Wahlberg called in to Howard Stern's SiriusXM Radio show to share a few morsels. "They might try one more year," Jenny said of the talk show, "and then the Titanic might go down."

Wahlberg said that, just as he had predicted, someone from the show called his wife six months after she left The View to ask whether she'd come back. Jenny's reply? "I said, 'No, thank you.' "

Gossip petits fours

Onetime debauchee Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi Instagrammed a cute pic of the Sunday baptism of her daughter, Giovanna. . . . Mariah Carey last week denied she was dating super- blockbuster moviemaker Brett Ratner. Days later, they were spied promenading arm in arm along the Caribbean. Carey, who turned 45 on Friday and Ratner, who turned 46 on Saturday, had a lavish joint b-day party Sunday on a yacht.

'Home' takes the bucks home

DreamWorks' animated family film Home, which features the voices of Jennifer Lopez and Rihanna, took the top spot on the box-office charts this weekend, earning $54 mil, according to studio estimates. Will Ferrell's latest outing, Get Hard, took a very distant second place with a first-weekend tally of $34.6 mil, while teenage fantasy Shailene Woodley and Kate Winslet's Divergent sequel, Insurgent, was at third place with $22.1 mil.
