Katie Couric Says ‘I Do’!
The first day of summer was the perfect day for Katie Couric to marry her fiancé of 10 months, financier John Molner, 51, at her home in East Hampton, N.Y. on June 21. The intimate ceremony was attended by 50 friends and family, reports People, including her daughters Ellie Monahan, 22, and Carrie Monahan, 18, and Molner’s children, Allie and Henry Molner, Couric’s rep told E! News.
“So excited to make my debut as Mrs. John Molner,” the 57-year-old announced on Twitter.
The beaming bride wore an ivory, crystal beaded and embroidered Chantilly lace halter gown designed by Carmen Marc Valvo. The ceremony was officiated by John Ellis, a close friend of the newlyweds, and Molner’s nieces and nephews served as ring bearers and flower girls, says the rep.
This is Couric’s second marriage, whose first husband Jay Monahan died of colon cancer in 1998. The former Today show co-host dedicated herself to raising colon cancer awareness after Monahan’s death at age 42.
In an interview with Parade in 2012, Couric was asked if she would ever marry again. “I would like to. I’m the marrying kind, even though I’ve only been married once. I like the idea of having a life partner. I’m actually very traditional in many ways.”
Couric was also touched by fans and viewers who wanted her to find love again. “I actually think it’s sweet,” she told Parade last summer. “People know that I had a lot of heartache, and when I was younger, you know, that my husband died and that I was widowed at a fairly young age…and that I had two little kids, and that I’ve been a single mom. I think people are also hopeless romantics and they do want to see people find their soul mate, and even find their soul mate for a second time. I am flattered that hopefully people do want me to find happiness.”
