Neil Patrick Harris' representative explains stage drama

Neil Patrick Harris' representative has played down reports suggesting the actor cursed at an audience member who interrupted him during a performance of his Broadway show, calling the star's response "light-hearted" and "in character".

The How I Met Your Mother star was said to have yelled an expletive after a female fan shouted "I love you Neil!" while he was performing in Hedwig and the Angry Inch, with reports suggesting he retorted, "I'm doing something up here, motherf**ker!" However, a representative for the actor has now explained Harris stayed in character and improvised, much to the amusement of the audience.

The spokesperson tells Gossipcop.com, "The response to the fan yelling was actually done in character - Neil as Hedwig, not as though Neil stopped the show to respond out of character... When the fan initially yelled, 'I love you, Neil,' Neil (as Hedwig) then responded, 'Who's Neil? I'm not Neil.' He then looked over at... (his castmate) and said, 'Are you Neil? You better not be Neil'... It was all done in good fun, and fully in the context of the show. The audience went crazy and it really was a light-hearted moment."
