Sideshow: Jane Fonda's being and time

Jane Fonda, 76, knows we are but specks in the temporal wind. "I have become so wonderfully, terribly aware of time, of how little of it I have left," she wrote on her website shortly after going all googly and weepy at Kerry Washington's baby shower. Fonda says "pretty things, kind deeds, sad stories," and all kinds of other things reduce her to tears.

"I find my emotions are way more accessible than they were when I was younger, and I've come to feel it has to do with age." Knowing how little time she has left, Fonda writes, "everything becomes so precious."

Will Pope Francis line up to see Hollywood's latest special-effects bonanza, Noah? Star Russell Crowe hopes so. And how: Crowe has sent several tweets informing the pontiff he'd enjoy Darren Aronofsky's $125 mil epic. "The message of the film is powerful, fascinating, resonant," Crowe writes.

In another, he asks fans to retweet his invitation: "Villagers, given his environmental focus/scholarly knowledge, trying to screen #Noah for Pope Francis. . . . You help? retweet previous."

But Crowe may want to give up his campaign. The Los Angeles Times said that when the Vatican was asked if the pope would weigh in on Stephen Frears' Philomena, which caused controversy in the Catholic community, a rep recently said that the pope does not watch films.

No films at all? Hrmph. Troubling.

Jimmy Kimmel, 46, and his wife, Jimmy Kimmel Live co-head writer Molly McNearney, 35, are expecting their first child, he tells Ellen DeGeneres on a segment of her gabfest to air Wednesday. Jimmy and ex-wife Gina Kimmel have two grown kids, Kevin, 20, and Katie, 22.
