FOX 29 NEWS anchor Kerry Barrett will discuss her struggles with miscarriages tonight on the 10 o'clock broadcast.

"It was a tough decision," Barrett told me about revealing this incredibly intimate aspect of her life.

"My husband [John, an F-16 pilot with the New Jersey Air National Guard] and I talked about it for months. First we decided we weren't going to talk about it. It's painful. [But] we decided we would feel worse staying silent. One of things I've heard is isolation is the worst part of going through a miscarriage, and I wanted other women to know that there's someone else going through it."

At one point during our talk, Barrett seemed to choke up a bit and apologized, struggling with her words.

"It's still hard for me to describe, or speak eloquently about it," she said.

The Barretts have one daughter, Avery, who is about to turn 3. Barrett said she is so grateful that she has Avery, but she and her husband envisioned two siblings to join her.

Barrett said that although every woman miscarries for a different reason, the feelings afterward are shared: isolation, frustration and a lack of answers. She hopes her report will at least remedy the idea that couples are alone in this, and doing the report had its own therapeutic elements.

"I almost felt ashamed or embarrassed about how my body failed, but by talking about it, I understood that [miscarriage] wasn't a failing of mine or my body. There's a certain sense of catharsis in that," she said.

Jamie Apody expecting

Congrats to 6ABC sports reporter Jamie Apody, who announced yesterday that she and husband Paul Coleman are expecting their second son together. The soon-to-be baby will join 16-month-old Tanner.

No word on the new name, but 6ABC anchor Rick Williams joked that Richard is always a fantastic choice for a moniker.

"Paul and I are so thrilled to be welcoming another little boy!" Apody told me. "Becoming parents last year and watching Tanner grow has been the most magical journey for us, and we just can't wait to give him a little brother!"

Apody is due in April.

There will be quite a few baby showers at 6ABC's studios. Both Nydia Han and Alicia Vitarelli are also expecting.

HBD, Ms. Patty

WDAS' legendary Patty Jackson celebrated her 50th birthday Monday night at Philly's Platinum Grille in Chestnut Hill (7719 Crittenden St.) with close family and friends, including Fox 29's Joyce Evans and her husband, 6ABC cameraman Rick Harris; state Reps. Jordan Harris and Cherelle Parker; City Council members Blondell Reynolds Brown, Kenyatta Johnson and Marian Tasco; City Recreation Commissioner Susan Slawson; radio personalities Lady B and Doug Henderson; and Dr. Adam Craven, who helped Jackson with her relatively new pearly whites.

Speed up

Want to see Howard Eskin get his tongue all tied up? Head to the Union League at 6 p.m. tomorrow for a celeb Speed Read contest to benefit First Book-Philadelphia. Local notables like Eskin, 6ABC's Alicia Vitarelli, KYW's Tim Jimenez, Fox 29's Jennaphr Frederick, BEN-FM's Marilyn Russell and reigning champ Kristen Graham (who works at that other Philly paper) will vie to see who can read Dr. Seuss the fastest. Last year's event, won by Graham and actor David Morse, bought more than 5,000 new books for kids in prekindergarten through 12th grade in Philadelphia, Bucks, Montgomery, Chester and Delaware counties. For tickets go to firstbookphilly.org.

In the Moody

On Monday, rapper Chill Moody celebrated the premiere of his video "Change Coming," featuring Freeway, on MTV Jams at Sigma Studios with family and friends, including Izzo, formerly of 100.3 the Beat, who was the first to place Moody's music on the radio. The video features some gorgeous shots of Philly and can be seen at chillmoody.com.
