Oprah’s yard sale raises $600,000 for charity: What did she sell?
Was this the world’s biggest garage sale? Oprah Winfrey hosted a yard sale this weekend in her latest effort to declutter and as you may expect, it was an epic affair. “I’ve been accumulating things since 1985,” Winfrey, 59, told Entertainment Tonight. “It’s just too much stuff…I realized I need to declutter my own life. It is very freeing. I am downsizing.”
The sale, which took place at the polo grounds in Santa Barbara, Calif., and also online, included furniture, artwork, and other miscellaneous items from her homes in Hawaii, Indiana, and California. Many of the items sold for hundreds or even thousands of dollars above their estimated value, snapped up by collectors eager for a memento once owned by the media mogul. All proceeds, estimated at $600,000, will go to Winfrey’s Leadership Academy for Girls in South Africa. Click through to see some of the items from the auction!
