Dan Gross: Ardmore's Kate Flannery to return as host of 'StandUp in Stilettos'

ARDMORE NATIVE and "Office" actress Kate Flannery is sad that it's the last season of the long-running NBC series, but very happy to return to host TV Guide Channel's "StandUp in Stilettos." The second season of the female comedy show premieres at 11 p.m. Nov. 10.

Flannery is no stranger to stand-up herself. She performs regularly in a lounge act called "The Lampshades."

"Miss December," which stars Corbin Bernsen, Gilbert Gottfried and "Clerks" actor Brian O'Halloran, debuts Thursday on Comcast On Demand.  

Derek Lindeman's film was shot in town in 2010 as "Calendar Girl," but was renamed by filmmaker Kevin Smith's company Smodcast Pictures, which recently picked it up for distribution.

Longtime New Hope resident Leon Redbone kicks off the monthlong celebration of the Sellersville Theater's 10th anniversary Thursday night.

In 2002, Redbone was the first artist to perform at the 325-seat theater when William Quigley and Elayne Brick restored and reopened the former movie house, which was built in 1894 as a stable. It's on the grounds where the Liberty Bell once spent the night while it was hidden from the British during the revolution.

The 15th annual FirstGlance Film Fest runs Nov. 9-11 at the Franklin Institute's Franklin Theater. As usual, the event features many films shot in Philadelphia or by local filmmakers.

"From Philadelphia to Fallujah," by David Hammelburg, a documentary following three players in the 2001 Army/Navy game who headed to war soon after, is part of the festival.

So is Scott Hatfield's documentary "Keith Haring: Heart of the Community," about the late pop artist and his work in 1987 in Philadelphia with kids and community members on a mural at 22nd and Ellsworth.

Another highlight is "Batman - Out of Character," by Chester County's Kris Theorin, 15, which took first prize in the Lego Super Heroes Contest.

Basketball coaches Phil Martelli (Saint Joseph's), Fran Dunphy (Temple), Jerome Allen (Penn), Bruiser Flint (Drexel), John Giannini (La Salle), and Jay Wright (Villanova) take part in the Coaches vs. Cancer of Philadelphia preseason luncheon from noon to 1:30 Thursday at the Great American Pub (123 Fayette) in Conshohocken.

The coaches will talk about the season ahead and their work with the organization that benefits the American Cancer Society.
