ESPN apologizes for Brent Musburger's comments about AJ McCarron's girlfriend

By now, Katherine Webb has surely swept every American off their feet. Miss Alabama USA 2012 was in the stands at Monday's BCS Championship game to cheer for her boyfriend, Alabama quarterback AJ McCarron. While Alabama was rolling Tide all over Notre Dame, Brent Musburger and the rest of the country took a second or 20 to relish in Webb's beauty. Musburger went as far as to suggest that Webb was reason enough for young men all over Alabama to seek out a life behind center. Now, ESPN is apologizing for the extent of Musburger's comments.
The ESPN statement reads: “We always try to capture interesting storylines and the relationship between an Auburn grad who is Miss Alabama and the current Alabama quarterback certainly met that test. However, we apologize that the commentary in this instance went too far and Brent understands that.” [John Ourand]
she's hot though lefty1117
But she doesn't think evolution should be taught in schools, so... as long as she doesn't talk, all good. azzuri- azzurri has two R's, sport
hannibal barca
Are they serious issuing an apology for those statements? Why did they show her if they weren't trying to elicit a reaction from someone? How hypocritical, unless they make the producer, director, camera person etc. all apologize too. Plus, she is smokin' hot. You'd have to be dead not to say something about her. mk1956- Man, you're exactly right. They dangle her like a piece of candy and then they want to crucify Brent for making an "off color" comment (which was actually pretty mild). Hypocritical is exactly what it is.

Auburn grad fraternizing with 'Bama guy? What would Charles Barkley say? Bobby Lee Hurt is long gone, but, really, I'd love to hear what Barkley would say. HolidayinCambodia
No need to apologize. They were light-hearted comments. The PC police must have been working OT last night. Phillies2008WSChamps
Musburger was right and his comments about her were clean. What's the problem? mick1219
HE'S HUMAN Serge_Matthews
wait, what? there was absolutely nothing wrong with what he said. box297
god. ESPN is unbearable with their manufactured controversies. nobody cares. calm down. Ryan- Reminds me of Chris Schenkle's, "Mamas, send your boys to Auburn" quote from back in the day.
- Really? ESPN has the nerve to say someone went to far??? How about all the stupid coverage they had of some back-up QB in New York they continuously reported about
Yeah, but it's OK for ESPN's cameras to drool all over her all night long... Bobby G
Further proof that espn is a joke. Can someone please start another all sports network please. Matt from Iowa
fake boobies!
sgamble077- I bet Brent came.
- Ok, so MB was out of line, but ESPN continued to show her throughout the game??? How hypocritical.
20 days or 20 years from now, the only thing anyone will remember from that game is that sexy girl Dutch10
Seriously, ESPN is becoming just another politically correct sports station. I certainly hope NBC and CBS become a better organization then the mother ship daytonhawk
Musburger said nothing offensive; however, I knew right away that someone would be upset over his comments. Something's wrong when you cannot compliment a woman on her beauty...what has become of us? dude
Espn apologizing for what? PC gone crazy, that's why I don't watch ESPN anymore. jimday
In my opinion, Brett did nothing wrong. I am really disliking ESPN lately. They are getting way too big for their britches.Yes CBS and NBC have their sports stations now. Tune into their programs. ESPN is a real loser.

The amount of apologizing for trivial nonsense is tiresome. She is very attractive and he made a joke about becoming a QB to get the hot girl. So what. DEC
These photos of her aren't helping ESPN's cause. Phillies2008WSChamps
ESPN was upset over the drool shorting out the microphone! Eagle_1960
I am fine with what Brent said. It was true. He held back imo. She is uber hot. MDefl
So now you can't even make a comment that implies how attractive a woman is. We've totally lost it. fentonhardy
She should send Brent a check. He basically did PR work for her. MDefl
that fact that she eas even on camera during a football game was "too far" psualum
so sick of espn psualum
fake ones feel weird! sgamble077
Dirty old man Jay Grace 69
But no apology for his racist comment about Monty Ball the week before?

If I had to choose which sense to lose last, it would be the ability to see. Atomic Fury
The media is so phoney. A guy makes an innocent comment that shows a trace of personality in what has been a glorious career and he's thrown under the bus by a bunch of pansies. She's pretty. Nobody said she couldn't be President some day run a Corporation. Just wow gorgeous and boy wouldn't everybody like to be a QB. Let's just get rid of Apple Pie too because it's an icon that may just be outdated. mlogan49
mlogan49 you are 100% correct with your comments. This is why there is NO freedom of the press.Everything now has to be politically correct. Who is determining what's politically correct? It's certainly not me! Johnnyboyl
My God how ridiculous. Musberger did nothing wrong. What the hell is wrong with our society? r white
My normally sensitive wife is NOT OFFENDED at all by what Brent said. ESPN carries PC to a ridiculous extreme. BigMike100
I've never liked Musberger as an announcer, going back to his time on "NFL Today on CBS" back in the 70s with Irv Cross and Phyllis George.
But I can't believe this issue with his comments. Has it come to the point where a heterosexual male can't comment on an obviously beautiful woman? What a joke ESPN has become Polecat_39
Brent just said what everyone was thinking. This is a non-event. richojr
She is a model! Get it? Look at the pic next to Brent? That is what she does so people say how hot she is. Good GOD this PC shyte is too much man.... foment3
Wow-I have a fan/stalker. And he/she is a far left loon. That makes it even better. Phillies2008WSChamps
Apologize for what??? I really don't get all the uproar over either of them. Sure she's hot, but it's not like Musberger was up in the booth spotting unicorns... Brian F.
How pathetically humorless and robotic the netwok's PC police have become. Is this what happend to Benny Hill? g\Get real and get a life. blipster- Well, we all needed to watch something interesting. It sure wasn't the game. And I think ESPN should be renamed ESPTMZ at this point. They apologize for this but not Skip Bayliss or Screamin' A. Smith?!?! The mind boggles. verve
How did Musberger's comments go too far. 1) She is an attractive woman; 2) She is Miss Alabama, a beauty pageant winner; 3) She has voluntarily put herself in the public arena with respect to her physical beauty, and has done so for many years in order to achieve fame based upon her looks; 4) Musberger said nothing inappropriate, exploitative or seven suggestive -- he was simply acknowledging as a trained journalist to report on the facts that she is a gorgeous woman and for a heterosexual male -- someone to notice. 5) Makes you wonder about the masculinity of the people in charge at ESPN -- perhaps they have a different orientation entirely. GeorgiePorgie68
ESPN needs to go away... ricciaje
