Vince Gilligan was hard at work on the ending of the ultra-depressing, impressively-deranged, eerily-inspiring story of a high school chemistry teacher-turned-meth dealer, Walter White, when he spoke with Vulture about the forthcoming end of Breaking Bad. Five years ago, the world met Walter White as he stood in his tighty-whities along a desolate New Mexico highway and frantically videotaped a goodbye to wife and son. Now, Walter White has revealed himself to be The Danger (SPOILER ALERT).

Gilligan dishes to Vulture about trying to bring White's story to a satisfying conclusion à la Casablanca.

“I’m not saying we’re going to approach that or reach in that direction. Our story doesn’t line up [with Casablanca]. But we’re looking for that kind of satisfaction.”

He talks about bringing the pilot back full-circle.

“Are there echoes of the beginning that we should have in the end? There’s a certain kind of circularity that might be pleasing,” Gilligan said. “We think a lot about that, in fact.”

Gilligan also mentions an overt ode to The Godfather, wrapping up the stories of the other characters, a shout-out to Columbo via Hank's revelation, and more behind-the-scenes dirt on the series that has Americans daydreaming about establishing their own drug empires. Here's lookin' at you, Walter White.

I know far too many people who have never seen this show. To me, better than even the Wire or Sopranos.

I'll put it in the top 15 shows ever made. There's too much lame family stuff to it. I thought it needed more BEEF to be considered in the top 5 or 10 shows. Some great characters though.

Agreed, one of the best shows ever on TV. I still gotta rank "The Wire" above it. Here Comes Honey Boo Boo would go right underneath.
