Here is a selection of dance shows, both local and worth a day trip.

BalletX (July 6-17, Wilma Theater)
Two world premieres by two top choreographers, Annabelle Lopez Ochoa and BalletX cofounder Matthew Neenan. Collaboration with Klip Collective, which works with immersive projection lighting and technology. (215-546-7824, balletx.org).

National Ballet of Canada (July 28-31, David H. Koch Theater)
Winter sounds good in the summer, and one of North America's top companies will present Christopher Wheeldon's take on The Winter's Tale in the Lincoln Center Festival. (212-721-6500, lincolncenterfestival.org).

Mark Morris Dance Group (Aug. 24-27, David H. Koch Theater)
Mozart Dances was commissioned 10 years ago on the 250th anniversary of the great composer's birth. The dancers will be accompanied by pianists Garrick Ohlsson and Inon Barnatan and the Mostly Mozart Festival Orchestra. (212-721-6500, mostlymozart.org)

Lincoln Center Out of Doors
You can't beat free. Especially not when the dance is this good. A whole program of freebies does dance at Lincoln Center. Illstyle & Peace Productions (July 23, Josie Robertson and Hearst Plazas) answers the question "Should you go to New York to see Philadelphia hip-hop?" Answer: Sure! It's the summer and a beautiful location.

Dance Theatre of Harlem (July 23, Josie Robertson Plaza) offers classical ballet under the sun. In Maurice Hines Tappin' Through Life (July 28, Damrosch Park), Gregory Hines' brother - and a legend in his own right - taps his autobiography, accompanied by a big band. Soledad Barrio and Noche Flamenca (Aug. 3-28, Damrosch Park) are a famed flamenco troupe that takes on the fado music of Portugal.

You'll have to buy a ticket for Midsummer Night's Swing (through July 5, Damrosch Park), which is ballroom dancing under the stars. A different style every night. Includes lessons. (lcoutofdoors.org).
