WATCH: New trailer for Ben Affleck's 'Gone Girl'

LOS ANGELES (Variety.com) - 20th Century Fox has released a stark new trailer for David Fincher's mystery thriller "Gone Girl," starring Ben Affleck.

The trailer starts with a voiceover from his wife (Rosamund Pike) saying, "This man of mine may truly kill me."

The trailer makes the case that Affleck's character has come under suspicion because he's a liar. "Gone Girl" also stars Neil Patrick Harris, Tyler Perry, Kim Dickens, Patrick Fugit, Scoot McNairy and Boyd Holbrook.

It's the first film for Fincher since "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo," although the helmer has directed episodes of "House of Cards" for the small screen.

"Gone Girl" opens the New York film Festival on Sept. 6 and goes into release on Oct. 3.
