Report: Philip Seymour Hoffman found dead in NYC apartment
Academy Award-winning actor Philip Seymour Hoffman was found dead in his Manhattan apartment Sunday, according to a report in the Wall Street Journal. He was 46.
Academy Award-winning actor Philip Seymour Hoffman was found dead in his New York City apartment Sunday of an apparent drug overdose. He was 46.
A cause of death has not yet been determined by the New York Police Department or the Office of the Medical Examiner, but a law enforcement official said it appeared to have been the cause of a drug overdose. Hoffman was found with a syringe, and bags of what appeared to be heroin nearby.
The celebrated actor won the Oscar for Best Actor for his portrayal of Truman Capote in the 2005 film, "Capote." He has also appeared in "The Big Lebowski," "Mission Impossible III," "The Master," for which he was also nominated for an Academy Award, and "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire." Hoffman played Plutarch Heavensbee in the Hunger Games movie. "Mockingjay," the two-part film finale of the popular book trilogy, is in production.
