Philadelphia Ukulele Orchestra at the Tin Angel

They party like it's 1929. On Saturday night at the Tin Angel, the 13 members of the Philadelphia Ukulele Orchestra will celebrate the release of their thoroughly charming self-titled debut album, which is just out on Chapter 7 records.

Produced by Pete Rydberg of Beretta 76 and featuring various  luminaries of the Philadelphia indie scene, all performing with  period-name aliases such as Robert Quinine, Cecil St. Vitas and Vivian Vapors, the album is by no means a novelty record. It's a 14 song set that beguilingly moves through a ukulele-ized version of the Great American Songbook, from "Yes Sir, That's My Baby" to "My Blue Heaven" to "San Antonio Rose."
