NBC 'Today' to livestream first digital-only concert with Phillip Phillips

LOS ANGELES (Variety.com) - NBC's "Today" morning program will bow its first digital exclusive concert, featuring singer Phillip Phillips, on Tuesday.

Carson Daly, host of the show's social media offshoot, "The Orange Room," will lead an hour-long special kicking off Tuesday, Sept. 16, beginning at 7:20 a.m. Eastern. The digital coverage, to stream live on Today.com, will feature an unplugged performance from Phillips -- best known for his hit single "Home" -- as well as special guest appearances.

According to the Peacock, portions of "The Orange Room Show" will simulcast live on "Today," but the Phillips concert and the full hour will be carried exclusively online.

Event is being staged to mark the one-year anniversary of the Orange Room, the effort by "Today" extend the program's reach to younger audiences via social media. Throughout one-hour stream, Carson will look back at the Orange Room's biggest headlines and most memorable moments since its debut, and will invite viewers to share photos using the hashtag #SeeingOrange.

In addition, "Today" hosts and producers will take live questions from the Orange Room and Twitter, and submitted photos may be featured throughout the TV coverage.
