Was Dave Matthews a little too soft for you, Atlantic City? Last summer, the jazzy jam band kingpin brought his Caravan festival to Bader Field. This year, on the same June weekend, the music will be considerably more, shall we say, aggressive, when Metallica headlines a two-day festival at the same decommissioned airport-turned-rock venue.

The line-up is a good one, and impressively varied. Besides Metallica, who will headline both June 23 and June 24, the other acts on the bill include Arctic Monkeys, F---ed Up, Modest Mouse, Titus Andronicus, Lucero, Gary Clark Jr., Roky Erickson, Cage The Elephant, A Place To Bury Strangers, Best Coast, Liturgy and more.

Metallica will do 1984's Ride The Lightning in its entirety one night and 1991's Metallica (known as "The Black Album") the other. "There’s a lot of f— off space,” drummer Lars Ulrich was quoted as saying in Loudwire. “I believe it is an abandoned airport.” Guitarist James Hetfield said, “We wanted the biggest space possible because we don’t know what’s going to happen at the end of the day.”

Weekend passes are going for $125, and go on sale February 11. More Orion + More info here. Below, go ahead and "Ride The Lightning."

Philly.com will publish the name of one band? Shame on you, there goes the neighbor hood, but for more than forty years it has been a "hood", now since gambling, yes, I do not call it the made up word, "gaming"

Metallica and Atlantic City. Sounds like 2 things that I could've gotten really get excited about if it were 15 years ago.

Not an abandoned airport Lars. One that was closed down officially in 2006. Some of the land going to the Atlantic City Surf Minor League Baseball Stadium - which the Surf disbanded (something Metallica should so) in 2009. A Flyer's Skatezone is also on the site. Lots of fighting over redevelopment of the rest of the 143 acres of land since it's prime real estate. Hey Lars, you have heard of the internet, haven't you? You can read about where you're playing. Oh yea, forgot. You despise the internet after Napster let people download your music for free. Oops!
