If you're headed to see Joan Osborne sing the blues at the World Cafe Live tonight, get there early for Lera Lyynn, the country noir femme fatale from Athens, Georgia who's the opening act.

I caught Lynn in Austin, Texas last month, and while she's no relation to Loretta, she is an Americana act of promise, who can do slow smoldering honkytonk and fleet Western Swing, plus  with a band that can unpend roots-music expectations.

Below, you can watch her hit a guy over the head with a shovel in the murderous "Bobby, Baby." I took that picture at Lynn's SXSW showcase at DeSeo Centro Lounge. Get a free download of her covering Johnny Cash and June Carter's "Ring Of Fire" here. The alliteratively-named Houston native's 2011 debut album is called Have You Met Lera Lynn? Here's your chance.
