Kanye West's next project: A film by 'American Psycho' author

There is an idea of a Kanye West; some kind of abstraction. But there is no real him: only an entity, something illusory. Which perhaps might explain why he’s having American Psycho author Bret Easton Ellis pen his next project.

West is setting his eye on the film world for his next piece, about which there are currently very few details. What we do know, however, is that Ellis was psyched to work with Kanye after hearing Yeezus

"It was early summer last year and I was driving in my car. He'd given me an advance copy and I thought, regardless of whether I'm right for this project, I want to work with whoever made this. So f--k it, I said yes," Ellis told Vice. "And that's how it happened. That was seven or eight months ago. We'll see what happens."

Brett Easton Ellis: hip hop fan extraordinaire. Still, though, Ellis and West’s collaboration isn’t exactly a surprise in that regard, considering that Ellis wrote the Yeezus promo we all know and love. Yup, that’s why it’s American Psycho-themed—it’s just a shame they couldn’t get a better Patrick Bateman than Scott Disick.

So, like with many of West’s projects, this one is shrouded in secrecy. If anything, let’s just hope he’s not trying to follow up on Ellis’ The Canyons. The world can only take that type of travesty once.
