The National Constitution Center's exhibit From Asbury Park to the Promised Land: The Life and Music of Bruce Springsteen, opens next week. On Thursday morning, I did a walk through of the exhibit, which originated at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, as they were unpacking the guitars and hanging the pictures on the wall.
The jeans and T-shirt the Boss wore on the Born in the U.S.A. album cover were already in their display case, but the faded red baseball cap he stuffed in his back pocket was still in the box. I'm not a memorabilia geek, but with a "Streets Of Philadelphia" Oscar in a display case, and a couple of Grammys lying around, I saw plenty of stuff Springsteen fans will get a kick out of. There are Springsteen's original hand-scribbled spiral-bound lyric notebooks, posters of a benefit concert for George McGovern in 1972 and shows at the Main Point in Bryn Mawr in 1974, and listening stations where you can hear audition tapes for legendary Columbia A & R man John Hammond or the much-bootlegged 1978 concert from the Agora in Cleveland in its entirety.
My story on the show will run in the Inquirer and on philly.com on Tuesday. Tom Gralish's behind the scenes video shot yesterday morning is below.

springsteen is a phony. OhOkay- and you're a loser

Can't even catch a mistake in the headline? ConverseB24- Bruce is the BOSS! OhOkay is an anonymous troll!
- You mad? you sound mad? BORRRRNNNN IN THE USA!!!
OhOkay
Same place that let Mumia speak. ALJ
Total catering to Bruce's Ego. GREEKPICNIC
springsteen has spent a lifetime complaining about how unfair america is only to make 100's of millions of dollars. He is a fraud.. stevejones
You people are morons!!
henry hill
Right. He started his career touring out of a small car shared with 4 bandmates... but eventually made millions because people paid to buy/hear/see his art. Rather than support his wife and kids, the responsible "true" thing would've been to reject all the money and live out of that van for the rest of his life. You know, contrary to what Mitt Romney seems to suggest, it IS possible to be wealthy AND still care about and feel passionate about those less fortunate. Especially if you started out as one of them. bosstime01
I was never a big fan, but have always admired Springsteen, and the E Street Band. Palladia is airing a 2005 concert from MSG this month. I watched it last night. It looked to me like another one of those legendary 3 1/2 hour shows they are famous for. He always gave the fans their moneies worth. tdoc
Bruce struggled for years, he and the band used to work for the "door", one night spliting a total of $3.50. Then he almost canned "Born to Run" that one got him to make the cover of Time and Newsweek.
The real point is this guy puts on the best shows of anyone I have ever seen, that inclucdes Stones, Marley, Beatles, Janis, Jimi, etc. and ALL the bands who have come and gone in the last 30 years. 110%+ every night and the real fans love it. Besides name a "superstar" band that still sells their best tickets for $98.00??? You know, contrary to what Barry says not all people who support the traditional American way and wear a tie to work while working very hard at a good paying job are angry, white, gun toters! And they don't let politics stand in the way of a great time!! sarah89- just had to bring obama into this story didnt you? And i didnt realize your were so old. I mean, you say you saw Janis, and shes been dead since 1970.

What does Springsteen have to do with the National Constitution Center? Jen D
Only brought Barry into it because someone mentioned Mitt, I like to keep things fair and balanced....LOL!!! Age is in the mind bro. Actually when it comes to music old age is a blessing. I saw the Beatles at Shea in '66, Stones (with Brian), Doors at the Civic Center in Philly before the Spectrum was even built, actually went to Woodstock, saw Marley at the Tower, Buffet too. Saw Allman Bros (with Duane Allman) at the Spectrum, Greatful Dead at Filmore West in '68 (with Pigpen). Chuck Berry at the old Valley Forge Music Fair and the Cherry Hill Arena with Ike and Tina, the Temptations at Steel Pier in AC...I could go on and on...point is Bruce is still the best, if you're a fan then you know that, if not check out a show. Even if it's not your favorite music you will love the show!!! GUARANTEEED!!!! sarah89
