Brian Startare leaves WIP for the Fanatic

The sportscaster makes the switch.

Sportscaster Brian Startare is jumping ship from WIP to 97.5 the Fanatic. He'll start next Thursday with the NBA draft from 7 to 11 p.m., Startare confirmed to me. His regular beat will be Sundays from 4 to 8 p.m. He'll cover the Flyers, the Eagles and fill in for other anchors when needed.

"I had eight and a half great years at WIP," Startare told me. "I want to thank Angelo Cataldi for giving me my start, and all the great people there, like Glen Macnow, Rhea Hughes, Anthony Gargano and Big Daddy [Graham] and all the folks who have helped me over the years. I'll miss them all."

Startare isn't taking a breather between gigs. "I was going to start this Sunday but it's my son's birthday," Startare said about his new eight-year-old, "so I'm taking my first weekend off in years."

For the record, Startare's son's birthday party is superhero themed. I wouldn't want to miss that either.
