Beyonce wins big with Super Bowl halftime show, will play Wells Fargo Center and Boardwalk Hall in July

POSTED: Monday, February 4, 2013, 9:03 AM

UPDATE: As expected, Beyonce's big Super Bowl splash is being followed by a tour announcement. The Mrs. Carter Show World Tour play the Wells Fargo Center on July 25 and Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City on July 26. Tickets for the Philadelphia show go on sale Feb. 15 at ComcastTix.com.

Before the Superdome power outage became the story of the night, Beyonce put all the brouhaha over her lip-synching the National Anthem at President Obama's inauguration this month behind her with what was surely the most scintillating big game halftime show since Prince played Super Bowl XLI in 2007.

Earlier this week at her Super Bowl press conference, Beyonce promised "I absolutely will be singing live," and it surely seemed she was, albeit with pre-recorded back up vocals, as she appeared several times larger than life on stage to a Vince Lombardi voice over.

But the dazzling part of the Beyonce Bowl wasn't about her singing so much as the hyper-energetic staging, the way she prowled the stage in skimpy black leather and knee high boots and looked the camera in the eye in her fiercest of Sasha Fierce modes. It was a spectacle worthy of the occasion, and also clearly an intensely rehearsed performance, making one wonder why she couldn't find the time to rehearse one song for the Inaugural.

She opened with a medley of "Love On Top" followed by "Crazy In Love" - without a guest rap from Jay-Z - followed by "Till the End Of Time" and "Baby Boy." After that came the much anticipated Destiny's Child reunion, with Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams back in black on "Bootylicious," "Independent Women," and before they were dismissed mid-song, "Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)." The crescendo came with "Halo," with a super diva down on her knees belting out an-over-the-top power ballad, before the power went out.

Watch the show below.

I agree that this much preparation could have gone in to her inaugural performance. A little disrespectful.

Could have cut that performance by about 20 minutes and wouldn't have lost anything. Worse half-time performance ever.

You guys are pathetic. Why watch it then or comment here if you don't like what she does? She is currently one of our world's biggest stars and if you don't like that, well it doesn't change it. It's not my thing but she's got tremendous charisma on that stage, not to mention a heckuva body. She seems like a nice person, a good person. And she's sexy while she's at it.

Stop calling her a singer, she's not. She is a marginally talented entertainer, and if that kind of nonsense of a little marginal singing and booty shaking is what you like, good for you. I would have much preferred Alicia Keys at halftime.

inteliwoman, you have no idea what you are talking about. Beyonce can sing, she's got a great voice, soulful with plenty of vocal control. She may not be Barbara Streisand, but she's far easier on the eyes than Babs. Give us some names of singers you think are better.

Who cares? Her music is horrible. She's ugly too.

    I thought she was awesome.

But my opinion is worthless because I love Beyonce.

I'm not evaluating the halftime show. To me, it's the time I take to go back to the kitchen, get rid of the bones, get some omre wings on the bowl, some more dip, celery and potato wedges. By the time I had done that, and we had cracked open some beers, it was time for the blackout. Perhaps the next time they will use a bit less electricity in the halftime show, so the circuits don't overload and the breakers snap.

Give me a marching band any day. Marching bands and football are meant to be together, and marching band musicians actually have talent.

Whether or not you liked the show, if there is a man alive that thinks Beyonce is ugly, you need to have your eyes or your sexual preference checked.

Women, kids and gay men like Beyonce. Not my type of hype. Plus, as hot as she is she has ugly feet. I'm a feet guy. I like pretty toes on a woman. Awful halftime show.
