UPDATE: Arlen Specter's office confirmed Tuesday morning that the former U.S. Senator is once again fighting cancer. "I am battling cancer, and it's another battle I intend to win," Specter said in a statement issued by his office. "I am grateful for the well wishes I have received and I am looking forward to getting back to work, to the comedy stage, the squash court and the ballpark," says Specter, an avid Phillies fan.
We reported what follows below on Monday afternoon...
Arlen Specter has been hospitalized with a serious illness, confirm friends of the longtime U.S. Senator. One asked that people keep him in thoughts and prayers.
Specter, 82, announced in 2005 that he had Hodgkin’s disease for which he underwent chemotherapy. His cancer returned and he was treated again in 2008.
Friends declined to comment Monday afternoon on the nature of his illness.
Specter had been scheduled to appear as a surprise guest and perform a comedy set at last Wednesday’s Stu Bykofsky Candidates Comedy Night but his secretary cancelled his long-booked appearance several days earlier, Bykofsky confirms, adding that Specter’s assistant referred to the cancellation as “personal.”
“I’m sorry I can’t provide any information to that effect, you’ll have to ask somebody else,” replied a woman who answered the phone at Specter’s office Monday when asked if she could confirm that Specter was in the hospital.
Specter’s son, attorney Shanin Specter, promptly retured our email Monday, but declined to comment for this report.
Don't sound good! Street Sense13
Stay strong, Mr. Specter!! The Baron- Arlen Specter , whose lies about the Kennedy assassination have brainwashed generations of Americans.
Yo sycophantic empire boy - we remember Anita Hill !
“The Warren Commission thought they had an open and shut case: three bullets, one assassin -- but two things happened that made it virtually impossible: 1) the Zapruder film, which you just saw, and 2) the third wounded man, Jim Tague, who was nicked by a fragment down by the Triple Underpass. The time frame of 5.6 seconds established by the Zapruder film left no possibility of a fourth shot from Oswald's rifle, but the shot or fragment that left a superficial wound on Tague's cheek had to come from a bullet that missed the car entirely. Now they had two bullets that hit, and we know one of them was the fatal head shot. So a single bullet remained to account for all seven wounds in Kennedy and Connally. But rather than admit to a conspiracy or investigate further, the Commission chose to endorse the theory put forth by an ambitious junior counselor, Arlen Specter. One of the grossest lies ever forced on the American people, we've come to know it as the "magic bullet" theory.”

This comment has been deleted. erniebanks14- erniebanks14 - are you even old enough to know anything about Arlen Specter? You simply sound like someone who is anti-politics and have probably never voted. Are you even over 30?
Good username however, Ernie Banks is a class act. blutz
Erniebanks14,you're an idiot. I worked for the Senator in the DA's Office and although over the years I didn't agree with all he said or did, never did I doubt his intelligence, honesty and commitment to the citizens of Philadelphia and Pennsylvania. He has my prayers and hopes for a recovery. lport
I am a republican but I don't wish death on anyone. I hope he is able to recover. Our prayers are going out to him and his family. TKL008
philadelphia and reason had a friend in the senate when spector was in office.
the lopez!- "It made a hell of an impact on a lot of people,"
Specter said.
"It was worldwide. People have said to me they were in Timbuktu, and they were watching," he said. "Last year, …I was heading into a rally in Pittsburgh and a woman walked up to me, and in front of all the cameras there, she said,
'I'll never forgive you for what you did to Anita Hill.'"

He was always smart and willing to change his views in the light of new information, what a politician should do. I didn;t agree with all his views, but I respected him ConverseB24
I wish Senator Spector well. Politics are not important here. A decent man is ill and I hope that he gets well if that is possible and a peaceful passing if it isn't. BillyBob369
I wish him well also. He's a politician never afraid to speak his mind and, like a lot of pols of his vintage, seems somehow bigger than those who have succeeded him. erniebanks 14, you are one small man and I'm not just referring to your private parts. Claudio Vernight
Somebody once said "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all".............................I have nothing to say! Chief_Negotiator- AS seemed to serve th epeople of PA.
