“City of Stars” from La La Land won a Golden Globe for Best Original Song on Sunday. Cowritten by Ardmore native Benj Pasek — who penned the lyrics with writing partner Justin Paul — it beat out Justin Timberlake's "Can't Stop the Feeling!" from Trolls, Ariana Grande and Stevie Wonder's "Faith" from Sing, Iggy Pop's "Gold" from Gold, and Lin-Manuel Miranda's "How Far I'll Go" from Moana.

"City of Stars" is duet between La La Land stars Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling

Here is Pasek on the way to Globes:

Pasek is a graduate of Friends Central. He then attended the University of Michigan.

It’s a good year for Pasek. He also has a well-reviewed show on Broadway, Dear Evan Hansen, based on a troubled kid Pasek knew of in high school. Toby Zinman called the show "heartrending and gorgeous."

"We never thought we'd be a part of an original movie musical," Pasek said on stage in Los Angeles while accepting the award. "This is for musical theater nerds everywhere."
